**Pentagon Ends All Harvard Army Programs Citing ‘Wokeness’
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the department is “formally ending ALL Professional Military Education, fellowships, and certificate programs with Harvard University,” calling the decision “long overdue.” He added, “Harvard is woke; The War Department is not.”
Hegseth explained that the Pentagon previously sent officers to Harvard hoping they would gain insight into the military, but claimed that “too many of our officers came back looking too much like Harvard – heads full of globalist and radical ideologies that do not improve our fighting ranks.” He further accused the university of creating a climate that “celebrated Hamas,” “allowed attacks on Jews,” and “promotes discrimination based on race,” while warning that partnerships with the Chinese Communist Party in research will be reviewed alongside other institutions.
The suspension of programs will begin in the 2026-27 school year, though currently enrolled service members will be allowed to complete their courses.
This move comes amid a long-running clash between Harvard and the Trump administration, which previously sought to overhaul the university’s admissions and governance policies and attempted to freeze federal funding following pro-Palestinian campus protests during the Hamas-Israel conflict. A federal judge blocked that funding freeze in September 2025, citing overreach and calling allegations of anti-Semitism a “smokescreen.”
Trump has since escalated pressure, stating earlier this month he plans to seek $1 billion in damages from Harvard over alleged anti-Semitism. Harvard President Alan Garber rejected the claims, calling them political intimidation and asserting, “the university will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights.” He emphasized that fighting anti-Semitism remains a “moral imperative” for the institution.
