Israeli Strikes Kill Four in Southern Lebanon Amid Truce Violations

(MENAFN) Four people were killed in the early hours of Monday as Israeli airstrikes and artillery fire rained down on southern Lebanon, Lebanese media reported — the latest in a mounting series of ceasefire breaches that have continued to claim civilian lives.

The casualties were sustained across multiple strikes in the town of Zefta, with hits recorded near a shelter center, the vicinity of a Shiite congregation hall, a public school, and the town center, a state news agency reported.

The bloodshed underscores the increasingly hollow nature of a ceasefire that took effect on April 17. Despite the agreement, Israel has pressed on with its military campaign in Lebanon, killing at least 3,613 people, wounding 11,072 others, and displacing more than 1 million residents since March 2 alone.

The latest strikes came as regional tensions reached a new peak on Sunday, when Israel bombed the Lebanese capital Beirut in open defiance of the ceasefire. The attack prompted Iran to launch retaliatory missiles at northern Israel, which in turn responded with several successive waves of airstrikes against Iranian territory — plunging the broader region into its most dangerous escalatory spiral in months.
