Wang Yi Meets with Israeli President Isaac Herzog

On October 15, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the latter’s request on the sidelines of the CICA Summit in Baku.

Isaac Herzog said that the Jewish and Chinese nations have a long history of exchanges. The two sides helped each other during the anti-fascist war and forged a friendship between their peoples, creating a remarkable historical story. Israel firmly adheres to the one-China policy, is committed to advancing Israel-China friendly relations, and is ready to seize the opportunity of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Israel and China next year to advance exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in science and technology, investment, people-to-people exchanges, and other fields.

Isaac Herzog shared Israel’s views and positions on the situation in the Middle East, saying Israel wants peace, not war, but faces threats and challenges to its national security that need to be responded to effectively. China has always been an important constructive force for regional and world peace. Israel values the relevant initiatives and proposals put forward by China, appreciates China’s efforts to advance regional peace and stability, and is ready to maintain communication with China.

Wang Yi noted that during World War II, the Chinese and Israeli peoples both suffered greatly from the scourge of war and extended a helping hand to each other in times of distress, with many touching stories emerging. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries more than 30 years ago, bilateral relations have maintained steady development and practical cooperation has achieved positive results, with the core lying in adhering to mutual respect, equal treatment and mutually beneficial cooperation. Next year marks the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the innovative comprehensive partnership between China and Israel. China is ready to take this as an opportunity to work with Israel to summarize experience, promote cooperation and consolidate the foundation of public support for bilateral relations.

Wang Yi stated that promoting the achievement of peace and reconciliation in the region is the cornerstone of China’s Middle East policy. China has always believed that the Palestinian question is the biggest historical injustice of this century, and that the two‑State solution is the right way out of the Palestinian question. The current regional situation remains tense, and peace and tranquility are far from being realized. The most pressing task is to comprehensively open the channels into Gaza. The two million civilians should not continue to struggle on the brink of death, and humanitarian disasters should not be allowed to spread. At the same time, Israel should also stop and revoke the act of forcibly establishing settlements in the West Bank.

Wang Yi stressed that since the beginning of this year, President Xi Jinping has put forward a series of initiatives and proposals on promoting peace and security in the Middle East, which are public goods provided by China for the Middle East and the world. China is ready to work with the international community to uphold and practice the common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable approach to security, and encourage all parties to return to the track of dialogue and consultation as soon as possible and to seek a political settlement of conflicts.

Wang Yi said that Isaac Herzog’s father, when serving as President, promoted the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel, and was also the first Israeli president to visit China. He wrote in his memoirs: compromise and negotiation do not always lead to loss; they often bring important gains and long-term trust. Under the current circumstances, this statement still has practical significance and inspiration. The Palestinian question is the root of the Middle East issue. Both the Jewish and Palestinian peoples enjoy the right to live in peace and the right to independent statehood. China believes that as long as all parties remain committed to and maintain their resolve to pursue peace, explore the path of peace in the same direction, and stay on the right course of the two‑State solution, the peace yearned for by the people will eventually come.
